2024 Rhode Island and Connecticut Tour

Itinerary

Day 1 - July 21, 2024 - Sunday  -  Arrive at Theodore Francis Green State Airport in Providence Rhode Island.  Take a taxi or Uber to the hotel and keep receipt for payback.  Hotel is Newport Marriott and we will be there for 4 nights.

Day 2 - July 22, 2024 - Monday  -  After breakfast at the hotel we will board the bus and go to Snappa Charter in Naragansett. We will board the boat to view the following lighthouses:  Whale Rock (#1), Beavertail (#2), Dutch Island (#3), Plum Beach (#4), Poplar Point (#5), Warwick (#6), Nayatt Point (#7), Conimicut (#8), Newport Harbor/Goat Island (#9), Pomham Rocks (#10), Bristol Ferry (#11), Hog Island Shoal (#12), Prudence Island (#13), Ida Lewis aka Lime Rock (#14), Castle Hill (#15), Rose Island (#16) and Conanicut (#17).  This will be an all day event and lunch will be on board.  Back to the hotel and dinner will be at a local restaurant.

Day 3 - July 23, 2024 - Tuesday  -  On the bus after breakfast to travel to Point Judith Lighthouse (#18) for a visit and photo oppurtinity.  Next we will travel to Beavertail Lighthouse (#19) to tour and climb.  After we have had our fill of this lighthouse we will go to The Elms Mansion in Newport for a self-guided tour.  We will take the bus back to the hotel or you can walk to the hotel (1.3 miles).  The rest of the day you can shop and find lunch and dinner on your own.  

Day 4 - July 24, 2024 - Wednesday  -  We will board the bus to Snappa Charters in Naragansett where we will board a boat to Block Island. When we arrive we will go by bus to Southeast Block Island Lighthouse (#20).  You will have time to shop and purchase lunch on your own in the ferry landing area.  Next is the North Block Island Lighthouse (#21).  You will board a van but to get to this lighthouse you have to walk along a rocky and sandy beach for about 1/2 mile.  You can remain in town if you don't want to trek to this lighthouse.  We will board the boat in the late afternoon to go back to port and then back to the hotel in Newport.   This is the last night in Newport and we will have dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 5 - July 25, 2024 - Thursday - This morning we have to load our bags on the bus and then depart for a tour of New London Harbor Lighthouse (#22).  Then we will go to Fort Trumbull Marina to board a boat to see the following lighthouses: New London Harbor (from the water), Avery Point Lighthouse (from the water) (#23) and land at New London Ledge Lighthouse (#24) for a tour.  After the boat ride we will stop for a sack lunch and the continue to get back on the bus and go to Submarine Force Library Museum and view the Nautilus Submarine and other artifacts.  After this we will go to our hotel in New London, CT (Night 1).  Dinner will be at the hotel.

Day 6 - July 26, 2024 - Friday - The bus will take us to Stonington Lighthouse (#25) and museum .  Next we will go to the wonderful Mystic Seaport and see the Mystic Lighthouse (#26). Lunch will be on your own here.  We will then go to the Cross Sound Ferry Terminal for "Lights and Sights" tour to see the following lighthouses:  New London Harbor Lighthouse, New London Ledge Lighthouse, Morgan Point Lighthouse (#27), Latimer's Reef Lighthouse (#28) Watch Hill Lighthouse (#29), Race Rock Lighthouse (#30), Little Gull Light (#31) and North Dumpling Lighthouse (32). Back to the hotel with time to explore the area.  Dinner will be at a local restaurant.

Day 7 - July 27, 2024 - Saturday - Today we head for a visit to Five Mile Point Lighthouse (#33) and a distant view of Southwest Ledge Lighthouse (#34).  Lunch at a local restaurant is next. Our last lighthouse of the tour will be Watch Hill Lighthouse and museum.  We will visit the museum and fog signal building.  After this last lighthouse we will head for the hotel next to the airport in Providence Rhode Island.  Our Farewell dinner will be at this hotel.  

Day 8 - July 28, 2024 - Sunday - Departures for home.  Hotel has a shuttle service to the airport.
